Shop Standards & SOP

Document Purpose:
This SOP defines the software, hardware, and workflow standards for the shop. It ensures consistency, quality, and safety across all operations.

Scope:
Applies to anyone who uses the shop’s machines, software, and file management systems.

Responsibilities:
Staff are responsible for ensuring compliance, maintenance, and training.


  • Primary Software: Fusion 360

  • Secondary / Legacy Software: SolidWorks

  • File Formats: .f3d, .step, .iges

  • Modeling Standards:

  • Units: [mm/in]

  • Slicer:

  • Bambu Studio for Bambu Lab printers

  • IdeaMaker for Raise3D E2 printer

  • Filament Standards: 

  • Approved brands only, confirm with staff if using personal filament

  • Print Approval Process: 

  • Printers available on first come first serve basis

  • FOR THE FUTURE: long prints started to go over night

  • Supported Printers:

  • Resin Types: 

  • Elegoo Standard Density 1.150 (unsure of the other approved resins; this is what is currently in the printer)

  • Formlabs official resins - tough, durable, clear, and flexible on lab stock

  • Post-Processing: Wash → Cure → Remove Supports → Sand → Finish/Paint

  • PPE Requirements: Gloves, goggles, ventilation, etc.

  • Scanner software: Creality Scan 4

  • Post-Processing Software: Any mesh processor/editor (Ex. Blender)

  • File Formats: .OBJ, .STL, .3MF

  • Accuracy Standards: Smallest listed tolerance: 0.2mm

  • CAM Software: Autodesk Fusion 360 (Manufacturing Extension optional), CarveraCAM

    • Control Software: Carvera Controller Community Edition
  • Supported Machines: Carvera

  • File Formats: Carvera only processes .nc files

  • General PPE Required: close-toed shoes, non-loose fitting clothing and jewelry
