1. Purpose of This Safety Manual
Section titled “1. Purpose of This Safety Manual”This document outlines the minimum safety information required to operate the Elegoo Saturn 4 Ultra 16K in the Prototyping Studio. It focuses on:
- Hazards that can cause injury or damage
- Required protective measures
- Emergency response procedures
This document does not teach you how to operate the machine. Refer to the linked Operations Manual for usage instructions.
2. Who May Use This Machine
Section titled “2. Who May Use This Machine”This machine may be used by:
- Fab Lab users who have read and acknowledged the Elegoo Saturn 4 Ultra Operations Manual
Usage conditions:
- Fab Lab staff present during usage time
- Users must review and acknowledge this Safety Manual before first use
3. Primary Hazards
Section titled “3. Primary Hazards”Be aware of the following hazards when using this machine:
- Chemical (Resin): resin can irritate skin/eyes and should not be inhaled or ingested.
- Optical (UV Light): The printer uses UV light to cure resin. Be cautious of exposure to the UV
- Mechanical (Pinch/Crush): Moving components can pinch fingers during motion.
4. Required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
Section titled “4. Required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)”The following PPE is required when operating this machine:
- Nitrile gloves (required)
- Safety glasses (recommended)
- Mask (optional)
5. General Safety Rules
Section titled “5. General Safety Rules”Always follow these rules when using this machine:

Never bypass procedures

Never touch uncured resin with your bare hands

If resin comes in contact with skin, according to the manufacturer, “Take off contaminated clothing and shoes immediately. Wash off with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes and consult a physician if feeling uncomfortable.”

Never get uncured resin in your eyes

If resin gets in the eyes, according to the manufacturer, “In case of contact may cause irritation, immediately flush eyes with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes. Call a physician immediately if eyes are hurt.”

Keep hands, hair, clothing, and loose items clear of moving parts

6. Emergency Stop & Safety Features
Section titled “6. Emergency Stop & Safety Features”Know the location and function of the following before operating the machine:
- Emergency Stop: This machine does not have a dedicated emergency stop button.
- Power Disconnect: Rear power switch (primary). If needed, unplug the machine from the wall outlet (staff only if possible).
- Safety Covers: UV cover that reduces exposure to UV light and helps contain resin odors. Keep closed during operation.
If an emergency occurs, stop the job using the touchscreen. Otherwise, turn off the machine using the rear power switch and notify staff.
7. Unsafe Conditions – Stop Immediately If:
Section titled “7. Unsafe Conditions – Stop Immediately If:”Stop using the machine and notify Fab Lab staff immediately if any of the following occur:
- Unexpected loud noises, grinding, or abnormal motion
- Resin leaks, strong, unusual odors, smoke, or sparks
- Visible damage to the vat, build plate, or cover
- Software errors you cannot confidently resolve
Do not attempt to diagnose or repair major issues yourself.
8. Incident & Injury Response
Section titled “8. Incident & Injury Response”If an incident occurs:
- Stop the machine using the emergency stop if safe to do so
- Move to a safe distance
- Notify Fab Lab staff immediately
- For injuries, staff will follow Fab Lab emergency procedures
9. Chemical & Material Safety
Section titled “9. Chemical & Material Safety”This machine uses the following chemicals/materials:
- 405nm photopolymer resin
- Cleaning solution (isopropyl alcohol)
Special handling/disposal requirements:
- Wear nitrile gloves when handling resin or uncured parts
- Immediately wipe small drips/splashes with disposable towels
- Never pour resin or used solvent down a sink or drain
Ventilation requirements:
- Use the resin printer in the designated Fab Lab resin area
- Keep the cover closed during printing to reduce ventilation needs
10. Acknowledgement
Section titled “10. Acknowledgement”By using this machine, you acknowledge that:
- You have reviewed this Safety Manual
- You understand the primary hazards and required precautions
- You will follow all Fab Lab safety rules
- You will ask staff for help if you are unsure or uncomfortable

Section titled “11. Questions or Help”If you have questions or need assistance at any point, ask a Fab Lab staff member. Staff are always present during operating hours.
